Five Manchester United youngsters promoted to first team training

All of the Man United squad members are back at Carrington for pre-season ahead of their tour of the United States.

Five Manchester United youngsters were drafted into the first team's training session on Saturday.

Thirteen United players who were on international duty in June reported for pre-season ahead of the squad's flight to the United States on Wednesday for their three-game tour.

Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Anthony Elanga, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and Facundo Pellistri were all back at Carrington this weekend.

Eric Bailly and Alex Telles, who spent last season on loan at Marseille and Sevilla, did not return amid plans for them to be sold.

Youngsters Sonny Aljofree, Willy Kambwala, Sam Murray, James Nolan and Mateo Mejia all participated in the session on Saturday.

The senior squad members involved in the midweek friendly win over Leeds United in Oslo were at Carrington but did not appear to participate in the session with their returning teammates.

United manager Erik ten Hag suggested none of the internationals on duty last month would be involved in the friendly with Lyon in Edinburgh on Wednesday.

"Those players, most of them won't show up in Edinburgh as well," Ten Hag clarified. "They need a good training week, they had their days off, relaxation, those players played the most games last season, they needed that rest.

"But we have to bring them back and be careful. You can't go from zero to 100. So one of the things at the end of last season, we didn't always have our best starting XI, so that's what you want to achieve here."
