Drama As Dead Kingmakers Are Listed As Voters In Controversial Selection Of Monarch In Adamawa Community — Source

According to a report by SaharaReporters, there is a looming crisis in a community in Adamawa State over the selection of a new monarch as deceased kingmakers were said to have voted during the selection process.

The controversy has generated tension in Pakka, in the Maiha Local Government Area of the state.

A source privy to the process said out of the five kingmakers who were said to have voted, two are dead –Ardo Abubakar and one Adamu.

One of the contestants, Muhammadu Aliyu would have been the sixth kingmaker but he was not allowed to vote as he was also contesting to ascend the throne.

SaharaReporters learnt that Aliyu, the current village head of Pakka, was denied the right to vote, in the race he contested alongside three others.

Aliyu, Muhammad Adamu Abubakar, Ahmadu Saibaru and Usman Ahmadu contested the Pakka traditional stool.

“The names of dead persons were listed among those who voted. They are Ardo Abubakar and one Adamu who are the deceased persons,” a source said.

Some people in Pakka, in the Maiha Local Government Area have expressed dismay over how the authorities allegedly manipulated the process of selecting their new king by listing dead persons among those who voted.

On Wednesday, some people vehemently rejected what they called “imposition of a traditional ruler,” promising hell if the process was not reversed.

The immediate past ruler of Pakka died on August 3, 2021, leaving a vacant throne for about four months.

The Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has been enjoined to reject the outcome and “instead order a fresh election to avert an imminent crisis in Pakka,” Bayero, who is a friend of the contestants, Aliyu, said.

As things stand and despite the alleged irregularities, two names have been forwarded for the authorities to appoint the new ruler of Pakka from.

“The Emirate Council, having received the result, adjudged to be credible and peaceful nomination, will eventually select the most capable candidate as the new ruler from among the nominated two,” Danburam Mubi, who superintended the process had said.
